Episode Seven

La Finca Cabernet Sauvignon (2017)

Even when she's not drinking, Dana's always pinkies up on the wine front! A really young vintage, this cab sav was lightly oaked for 3 months leaving just a hint of smoke. Although there are not a lot of fruity notes, there is a distinct cherry note. While it doesn't have a lot of character for general sipping, it would be great with beef or cheese.

Educated Guess Cabernet Sauvignon (2015)

This chalkboard-covered Napa Cab is "oaky and smokey" in the best way. While it lacks an expected hint of fruit, this vintage is rich and deep like a delightful piece of dark chocolate. You may not be able to follow the complex equations on the label, but you will be pleased with the delectably solid cab sav inside.

Episode Five

Liberté Pinot Noir (2013)

IMG_8058.JPG

This pretty pinot with its charming bottle is much more complex than anticipated--perfect for our episode on 'adulting.' The deep, peppery notes give way to a faint vanilla finish. This is a go to for happy hours talking over the big questions in life--its "spicy and complex like an adult should be." Feel free to toast to us when you uncork this beauty!

Ego Goru Verde (2015)

If you find this lurking amongst the vinho verdes, don't be fooled! It is a red wine. An award-winning organic bottle made for an established Spanish grape, this wine is "heavy, but not Bordeaux heavy." It has a lot of body, a dry finish and a hint of currant. And as it tastes much more expensive than it is, definitely worth a try! We will certainly be sipping this again in the future.

Episode Three

Old Moon Zinfandel (2015)

Great for those colder nights, and perfect with a good stew, this fruity zinfandel ends with a nice mix of spice and pepper. Scoring points for drinkability and affordability, it was more acidic than expected. But, as we said, "sometimes you gotta be a little acidic."

Episode Two

Trader Joe's Coastal Sauvignon Blanc (2016)

A little sweeter and fruitier than you'd expect, this wine is both drinkable and affordable. Although only Dana picked up notes of blue cheese, our hosts agree that this doesn't have the same crisp minerality of other sauvignon blancs. It would be a great "sipping wine" for a lazy Tuesday night or while cooking a spicy meal.

Episode One

Cupcake Sparkling Rose

This wine is exactly what you would expect a sparkling rose to be in 2018: not too sweet or sugary. It was a bit too basic for our tastes, or as Sarah put it "like the most generic rose you've ever had." It would be a satisfying chilled drink for a lazy summer BBQ -- and the perfect feminine bottle to have out at a bachelorette!
